I finally got to play abit today, mind you I'm not that far in yet but I'm not regretting my purchase by any means. Either way this game is going to sell quite a few copies, still remains up on Amazon's top 10 for weeks now.
Some of these magazines have people reviewing games that really don't even buy games and certainly wouldn't buy a game like this in their free time. I think this is actually quite a step up on Horizon and RDR2 (although the production values of RDR are through the roof). This is basically closing in on my #2/3 game this gen, Bloodborne/Dark Souls III are still very much up there. There is always room for margin, but to me any reviewer scoring this less then 65ish area has no business reviewing adult games - unless that is there normal range for a very good solid game. People that like Chess don't buy Checker pieces. If you don't like those things than its probably not a buy. If you like The Last of Us/Uncharted combat, with traveling in a RDR/Mad Max world with zombies that doesn't hold your hand. If you like My Little Pony games or some type of SJW game or games with a large amount of Lesbians - this ain't it and I would say there is little doubt this game was hit with reviewers with an axe to grind. This is a very solid game all around other than it would have been nice, if the performance was better in some areas. Generally agree with you, I usually don't even touch many games in the 70s (although I did list some I have at discount or gifts), let alone purchase on day one. It’s not going to feel like a “94 average” game - it won’t, or it would have received a 94 average But buying something at $20 still doesn’t make it a great game. So, to me, the numbers count for something - and that means there is no way I’m going to plop down $60 for “days gone” this week. But the average has pretty much always been a fair assessment.Īnd it works the other way, too! I try games that I have NO INTEREST IN but that received a 93 or 89 average and I’m like, “God damn, this is great!”
I can’t put my finger on it or explain it in words. When the average is in the 70s then something is missing. But guess what? They weren’t that good despite being exactly the type of game or genre I was looking for. I’ve bought games DAY ONE with a 75 average that “I just needed to have because they looked my type”.
I wanna address the people saying “Don’t let the 72 Metacritic average throw ya” or “just try it”.
